Christians-Broda-Platz: Vienna relies on sustainable wooden traffic signs
In Vienna, an innovative environmental project is presented that not only upgrades the Christian Broda Square, but also changes the تصميم philosophy of the city. Since this week, new wooden traffic signs have been decorating the space that acts as a sustainable alternative to traditional aluminum signs. A total of 46 of these signs have already been installed and the city plans to use them spacious for similar design projects.
The introduction of the wooden signs is the result of a long development process that not only considered the resistance to different weather conditions, but also the special liability of the film on the wood. According to the responsible office for road construction (MA 28), the wooden boards are intended to survive for the next 20 years.
sustainable production
The city uses domestic poplar and birch wood for the new signs that come from Central Europe. To extend the lifespan of the wooden signs, under the material of thermal treatment. Even if the wooden signs have a shorter lifespan than their predecessors made of aluminum, they can be composted at the end of their use or used as fuel.
The signs are made directly in Vienna, which is more expensive than the production of aluminum signs, but causes fewer CO₂ emissions. The production of the wooden signs has one of a third lower CO₂ equivalent compared to the aluminum versions. In addition, the wooden signs are TÜV-certified and can be installed with the existing brackets, which means that additional costs for conversion work are eliminated.
With this step, the city of Vienna would like to set a sign of sustainability and reduce environmental pollution. It remains to be seen how well this initiative is accepted by the public and whether further such projects will be implemented in other parts of the city.
