Abandoned dog mothers in Vienna: help and information wanted!

In a worrying incident in Vienna, two mother dogs and their puppies were abandoned within days of each other, alarming the local animal welfare community. TierQuarTier Vienna has taken care of both dog families and is now looking for information about the responsible owners.

The first family, consisting of a mother dachshund and five newborn puppies, was discovered in a dog park in Vienna-Margareten. An attentive passer-by noticed the abandoned animals and alerted the TierQuarTier animal rescue team. Just a few days later, an unknown person brought another mother dog and her eight puppies to a police station in Vienna-Donaustadt after finding the frightened animals. Both dog families are now safe and are receiving the necessary care.

Please provide information on the origin of the abandoned dogs

Thomas Benda, operations manager at TierQuarTiers, commented on these heartless acts: "These acts are not only punishable by law, but reflect a worrying level of irresponsibility. Animals that are simply left to fend for themselves with their puppies are exposed to great danger and their lives are disregarded." The authority has already taken measures to provide protection for the animals, but the number of animals being abandoned is pushing the facilities to their limits.

TierQuarTier calls on the public to be vigilant and report suspicious activity regarding pets. Abandoning animals is prohibited by law and can be punished with fines of up to 7,500 euros. Ruth Jily, head of the veterinary office of the city of Vienna, reinforces this call with the words: “It is important that those responsible are held accountable if they simply abandon a mother animal with puppies to fend for itself.” She appeals to the people of Vienna to report any information, especially if someone recognizes an abandoned animal. The City of Vienna's lost-and-found service for pets can be reached on 01/4000 80 60, and all reported information is taken seriously.

The situation alarmingly highlights the challenges faced by animal welfare organizations. The case needs not only attention but also a coordinated community effort to prevent such callous acts.
