preparations for the new building
Before the new green district can be realized, extensive demolition work must be carried out. The area is cleared in two phases: first in the eastern area at Rebhanergasse, followed by Nordwestbahnstrasse. As part of this work, around 160,000 square meters of sealed areas are sealed, which entails considerable ecological advantages. The entire demolition material is to be removed by the rail. The actual start of construction is already planned for 2026 after the first demolition phase has been completed.
"Overall, the demolition will take four years," explains Sima. However, the peasantry in Brigittenau sees the changes with mixed feelings. District head Christine Dubravac-Widholm noted that the former train station is perceived as a barrier that limits the use of the area. "After the demolition, the area should be opened for pedestrians and cyclists," is the planning.
important infrastructure for the future
A central element of the new district will be an expanded educational infrastructure. "We first rely on the construction of an education campus and non -profit living spaces," announced Ulli Sima. The plan also provides for the construction of four striking high -rise buildings, while in the center a ten hectare park is to be designed as the green lungs of the district. In total, living space for up to 16,000 people is to be created here, of which 60 percent of the apartments are to be funded. "This project not only benefits the future residents, but also the residents," says climate protection minister Leonore Gewessler about the progress.
Another important step is the already planned extension of tram line 12, which will cross the new city district from 2025. The preparatory work for this has already been completed.
The transformation of the former northwest station to a modern city district, which is particularly aimed at sustainability and quality of life, is being followed with great attention. These developments are of considerable importance for long -term urban planning and show a clear focus on environmentally friendly solutions.
