The festive atmosphere in Vienna will become even more intense from December 27, 2024, when the traditional New Year's Eve markets open their doors. Like from oe24 reports, visitors can look forward to a variety of lucky charms that are traded as part of an old custom. At a total of 183 market stalls in the city you can buy colorful lucky pigs, chimney sweeps, horseshoes and many other motifs that are supposed to represent good luck in the new year. Open daily from December 27th to December 31st, these stalls also offer the opportunity to warm yourself with punch and mulled wine while strolling through the markets.
New Year's Eve markets at a glance
The five selected New Year's Eve markets not only mean a place to buy lucky charms, but also a sociable atmosphere with various gastronomic stalls. The New Year's Eve Village on Maria-Theresien-Platz and Belvedere Palace are among the main attractions. Both markets are open from December 27th to 30th from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on December 31st until 6 p.m. There are a total of 117 stalls available there, including numerous gastronomic offerings such as MyDistrict supplemented. Other markets are located in the Favoriten pedestrian zone and in front of Schönbrunn Palace, where the New Year's market remains open until January 6th.
Market office director Andreas Kutheil assures: “There are definitely enough lucky charms for 2025.” The markets are not only a pleasure, but also an important part of Viennese culture, supported by the Market Office, which monitors compliance with regulations.
