New exhibition in the Jewish Museum Vienna: Explore questions to G*tt!

Dorotheergasse 11, 1010 Wien, Österreich - On April 1, 2025, the Jewish Museum Vienna opens a fascinating special exhibition entitled "G*tt. The big questions between heaven and earth". This exhibition is on the occasion of the museum's 130th anniversary and highlights the complex question of the divine presence from various religious, philosophical and social perspectives. The opening of the exhibition is accompanied by discussions and a supporting program that includes film screenings with well -known personalities, such as the Nobel Prize winner Jon Fosse.

The exhibition promises an interdisciplinary experience through seven thematically focused rooms, in which central questions about the presentation of G*tt are discussed. The questions raised include: What does g*tt mean?, How does g*tt show?, Where does G*tt live, and why G*tt? These topics should not only enable visitors to access Jewish ideas of G*tt, but also promote the dialogue between historical ritual objects and contemporary art. The curators Domagoj Akrap and Daniela Schmid carefully selected exhibits from international and domestic collections.

insights into the collections

The Jewish Museum Vienna has one of the largest collections of Jewish museums worldwide, which includes a variety of objects and artifacts. This collection has a long history that goes back to the opening of the first Jewish museum in 1895. The founding members, Viennese Jews with roots in the eastern parts of the Habsburg monarchy, collected a wide variety of cult devices, oil paintings and photographs. Until the closure in 1938, the collection included around 5,400 inventored objects, many of which were robbed during the November pogrom in 1938.

Since 1992, the collection of the first Jewish museum has been supervised as part of the collection of the Israelite cultural community of Vienna in the Vienna Jewish Museum. The collection currently comprises more than 25,000 objects that provide insights into the history of the Jews in the Habsburg monarchy. The online collection of the museum shows over 300 three -dimensional objects, textiles and glass plate photos with biblical scenes that can be explored digitally by visitors.

participation and digital innovation

A special feature of the exhibition "G*TT" is the participatory element, in which visitors can share their thoughts on the question of God on a digital platform. This offers a modern way to get involved in the interdisciplinary dialogue and exchange your own perspectives. In addition to the exhibition, a detailed catalog is offered, which is available for 32.90 ꞓ.

The exhibition "G*Tt. The big questions between heaven and earth" can be seen from April 2 to October 5, 2025 in the Jewish Museum Vienna, Dorotheergasse 11, 1010 Vienna. Further information is available on the museum's website: www.jmw.at .
