Climbing accident in Perchtoldsdorf: 83-year-old falls five meters deep!
in Perchtoldsdorf, near Vienna, a shocking accident occurred in a climbing hall on Wednesday, March 19, 2025. An 83-year-old man from the federal capital had tried a demanding climbing route with the "6+" difficulty level. The misfortune happened in the attempt to hang the climbing rope into an intermediate backup: the old gentleman fell from a height of around five meters. Immediate help was required and he was flown to the AKH Vienna with an emergency medical helicopter, where he had to be treated due to his serious injuries. As 5min.at was quickly initiated and the transport to the clinic was immediately initiated.
The circumstances of the accident are now the subject of investigations that the authorities initiated in order to clarify the exact cause. The Wiener Neustadt public prosecutor is informed about the results of the investigations as soon as they are completed. As wien.orf.at this is not the only frightening incident in the region, whereby security in climber -friendly places is discussed again.
