35 years of forum guitar Vienna: A festival for women power!

Wien, Österreich - The guitar festival forum guitar Vienna celebrates its 35th anniversary in August 2025. Under the motto "Women Edition", the festival will be organized in the music and art of private university of the city of Vienna (MUK) and in the Vienna Konzerthaus from August 22 to 29, 2025. This special event aims to make the underrepresentation of musicians visible in the music scene and to offer them a platform. Rosemarie Brucher, Vice Rector of the MUK, emphasizes that the festival is a sign of feminism and equality, and thus supports the endeavor to promote gender justice in the industry that, according to a study by the Malisa Foundation, still has serious defects.

The comprehensive program of the festival comprises ten concerts, 14 master classes, two lectures and two competitions. A total of 31 international musicians will take part. Well -known artists such as Margarita Escarpa, EMA Kapor and Kyuheee Park will teach master courses. Particularly noteworthy is the composition competition for women, which is carried out in cooperation with Universal Edition and the MUK. The best pieces are premiered in the opening concert on August 22nd.

diverse program offers

The festival program offers a variety of events that take place in various locations in Vienna. The start will take place on Friday, August 22nd, at 7:30 p.m. with an opening concert in the World Music. The concerts are spread over the entire week and offer a wide range of musical performances. Highlights include appearances by artists such as EMA Kapor and Dale Kavanagh as well as Musica Mediterranea and duo.

For the participants of the festival, lectures are also offered that give both practical and theoretical insights into the music industry. Registrations for the master classes are possible until August 12, 2025, and the participants can look forward to an intensive learning experience with experienced artists.

background to gender justice

According to the Malisa Foundation, initiatives on gender justice have become a central topic in the music industry in recent years. Studies show that the proportion of women in the music industry and especially at festival stages is still low. The average proportion of women on festival stages in 2019 was only 16%. These figures illustrate the structural disadvantages that women and non -binary persons suffer in the industry.

But there are also positive developments. Smaller and medium -sized festivals recorded an increase in the proportion of women in 2022. Even if the results are shaped by returns in certain areas, the Forum Guitar Vienna shows that the visibility of women in music can be significantly increased through targeted support measures and events such as this festival. With the focus on outstanding musicians, the goal is to sensitize future generations to the importance of gender equality in music.

In summary, the 35th anniversary of the Forum Gitarre Vienna not only symbolizes a festival of music, but also an important step towards equality in an often male-dominated industry.
