Vienna is head: All parties for the municipal council election 2025!

On April 27, 2025, the eagerly awaited Viennese municipal council and district representative elections will take place. A total of seven parties have set up for election, including well -known names such as the SPÖ, ÖVP, Greens, Neos and FPÖ. Also new in the race are "KPÖ and left" and the "Team HC Strache", all of which have submitted their candidates on time, such as oe24.at reported. This election is an important decision, because 100 mandates are awarded in the Vienna municipal council, and in the district representatives, depending on the number of residents, up to 60 mandates.

The deadline for the declarations of support, necessary for the candidacy of parties that are not already represented in the municipal council, began on January 27, 2025 and ended on February 28, 2025. Parties need 100 signatures for the municipal council election and 50 signatures for the district council election. Voters can give their declaration of support in any district office to give their voice to the competitive candidates, reports wien.gv.at . Despite the existing offer to take part in the election, only the parties that run in their own residential district can be supported

voter information

All voters entitled to vote have the opportunity to give up their vote if they were born by April 27, 2009. In addition, non-Austrian EU citizens are also entitled to vote, but only for the district council. From the beginning of March there will be detailed information on official pages for voters, so that they can find out more about their options and the responsible polling stations. An “official election information” is sent by post about two weeks before the election and helps the voters to carry out their coordination quickly and easily.

On election day, April 27, the polling stations are open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Voters must bring an official photo ID to confirm their identity. If mobility is restricted, election cards can be requested to be able to participate in the election, even without visiting the polling station. The choice is thus made accessible to all voters to enable broad participation.
