Christmas magic in Höchst: Thousands of lights bring joy to Advent light

in Höchst, on the border between Austria and Switzerland, Remo Tobler has been impressed with his opulent Christmas lighting for 30 years. What once started with around 500 lights has developed into a spectacular sight with several ten thousand glittering points that shine in full splendor every evening from 5 p.m. Despite the energy crisis, Tobler captures its tradition and has strategically reprogrammed its lighting: the lights now shine from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., which reduces its electricity consumption by almost 50 percent. "The electricity consumption will still be around 500 euros, but it is worth it for me, because it is my big hobby," explains Tobler pride, like tagblatt.ch reported.

The impressive illumination attracts numerous onlookers every day, especially families with children who often ask whether Santa Claus lives here. Tobler, who now lives highly in his home country, also took over the local Christmas lighting around the church after a traditional Christmas tree was missing this year. "We simply used the huge Mammut-Thuja next to the church as a replacement and I repaired the lighting," says the 64-year-old. For Tobler, the Christmas season is a contemplative time in which it not only spreads joy, but also good: the donations that he collects through his Christmas decoration go to the organization "Give for Life", which takes care of leukemia patients. Last year, around 24,000 euros came together, as Vol.at reported.

The neighbors are enthusiastic about Tobiler's play of light and support him in assembly and dismantling the lights. For many in the area, festive lighting is a highlight of the Christmas season. "People are always happy about the spectacular light and the atmospheric atmosphere that I create with my lights," he adds. Every year the efforts of preparation are greater, but Remo Tobler also enjoys the challenge that lasts up to the "Heilige three kings" before starting with the great breakdown. He firmly intends to spread his bright creations for many years.
