Series of bomb threats puts the train stations in Austria

In the past few days, bomb threats at train stations in Austria have caused a sensation. The threats led to temporary closures of several train stations in large cities in the country. Even the Viennese airport was affected by the threats. The series of warnings concerns the Austrian police intensively.

The threatening emails that led to the closures showed a striking similarity, as a spokesman for the Lower Austrian police said. Railway stations in various state capitals have been the target of these threats in the past few days. The affected train stations included St. Pölten, Salzburg, Klagenfurt, Linz and Graz. The police reacted immediately and blocked the affected train stations for several hours.

Despite intensive searches, no dangerous objects have so far been found. The Austrian authorities, including the protection of the constitution, are now involved in the investigation. The state railway company ÖBB has not yet commented on the incidents.

On Thursday it became known that Vienna Airport had also received a threat. However, the police exclude a connection with the bomb threats against the train stations. It is assumed that there is no direct threat to the sender.

The security authorities are working intensively to clarify the background of the threats. Travelers in Austria are still asked for increased vigilance while the investigation continues.
