Firecracker explosion in Bregenz: teenager seriously injured!

On January 1, 2025, a worrying incident occurred in Vorarlberg that brought the security situation during New Year's Eve celebrations into focus. In several operations, 214 identity checks were carried out and the police had to arrest a total of two people. One arrest was made on suspicion of disorderly conduct, while another attacker was taken into custody after attacking a police officer. The injured police officer required medical treatment due to the unspecified severity of his injuries. The events show that the new year started with a high police presence to ensure the safety of citizens, as reported on 5min.at.

A particularly tragic incident occurred in Bregenz, where three children aged 11 to 14 were seriously injured while experimenting with homemade firecrackers. One of the teenagers, a 14-year-old boy, had several fingers amputated after an explosion. This frightening event highlights the risk associated with the improper use of pyrotechnics. In addition, batteries in a waste paper container in Lustenau were set on fire due to improper storage of pyrotechnics, which forced the fire department to rush to prevent something worse from happening.

Legal consequences and pyrotechnics violations

The police also recorded 33 reports of violations of the Pyrotechnics Act and seized a total of 308 pyrotechnic items. Three further complaints against people for legal offenses in connection with fireworks will be sent to the Feldkirch public prosecutor's office. In Lustenau, two blank guns were seized during official acts, which resulted in a temporary ban on weapons. These actions are part of the authorities' efforts to improve safety during the New Year and minimize the risk of accidents and damage caused by pyrotechnics.

In addition, there are cultural traditions that popularize the meaning of the oath hand as observed in various historical and ceremonial contexts. This gesture, in which the right hand is raised, plays a central role in various cultural rituals, from the taking of the oath in Switzerland to military ceremonies.
