On Monday evening, May 26, 2025, a serious traffic accident occurred on Lustenauer Straße in Götzis, Vorarlberg at around 10:30 p.m. A 40-year-old man overtook a vehicle in front of him that was driven by a 19-year-old woman. During the overtaking process, both vehicles came into contact, causing the 19-year-old's front tire to burst. She then crashed into a steel railing without braking.
The result of the accident was that the 19-year-old driver was slightly injured, while her passenger suffered injuries of an unspecified degree. Both women were immediately taken to nearby hospitals. The 40-year-old, who had alcohol in his blood when overtaking, was stopped by officers at the scene of the accident and had to hand over his driver's license. Increased number of accidents and alcohol problems
The incident highlights a worrying development in road traffic. Driving behavior and its consequences
The increasing numbers of traffic accidents and violations in Austrian road traffic make it clear that measures to increase traffic safety are urgently needed. While some areas, such as seat belt requirements, have seen a slight decline, the issue of speeding and driving under the influence remains a concern. The authority to collect driving licenses on site and to file corresponding reports is one of the measures intended to contribute to improving road safety.
