27 million euros for flood protection: This is how the new Montfort Bridge comes!

A major project to improve flood security in Feldkirch takes shape: a total of 27 million euros are invested to extensively renew the Montfort Bridge and the surrounding areas. The renovation work in the Kapf Gorge should be completed by the middle of the year. The second construction phase begins from March 2025, which provides for the increase in the bridge by 0.9 to 1.4 meters to ensure safe distances to flood events. According to Vorarlberg.ORF.at, there must always be a freedom of at least one meter between the water and the lower edge of the bridge to prevent blocks from driving.

The first steps of the construction work include the implementation of existing lines and the creation of the necessary provisional. The adjustments to the traffic tours are crucial because the new bridge is up to 1.4 meters higher than the old. The completion of the entire project is scheduled for the end of 2026, whereby the last theses should be completed by the end of 2026. Information on the individual construction phases can be found on the homepage of the city of Feldkirch, where details on the effects on traffic are also provided.
