Deacon Philip Joseph: A sign of hope for the future!

Innsbruck, Österreich - at the high festival of Mariä Conception, December 8, 2024, Bishop Hermann Glettler in Innsbruck celebrated the consecration of deacon by Philip Joseph Maria Joseph, a 33-year-old religious from India. During the ceremony, the bishop emphasized that deacons were consecrated "for the mouth and craftsmanship of hope". In this consecration, the central task of the deacons was emphasized: to donate to other consolation, to make support and to convey the faith credibly. Glettler encouraged never to consider someone as a "hopeless case", and represented the Virgin Mary as a model and source for patience and resilience. The new deacon, which is shaped with deep vanity of Mary, is currently a doctoral student in Innsbruck and has an impressive training trip, which among other things included studying mathematics and philosophy. This consecration took place not only in Innsbruck, but also in the diocese of St. Pölten, where Bishop Alois Schwarz put his hands on the candidate for priesthood Lukas Reichard.

In addition to the celebrations in Innsbruck and St. Pölten, there was also a consecration of deacon in Bregenz on the first Sunday of Advent. There Bishop Benno Elbs put his hands on Christopher Joseph Illiparambil, who comes from the Archdiocese of Verapoly in India. On this solemn occasion, both the responsibility of the deacons was emphasized to be present in their community and to bring the needs of people in prayer before God, as well as the importance of prayer and personal dedication.

In a sermon taking place in parallel, Bishop Joseph Maria Bonnemain emphasized during the celebration to the climax of Christian faith that Saint Maria, with her undivided heart, created the space for God's work. He spoke about how important it is that the believers also find the courage to open God and give him space in their lives in order to experience this abundance of human and earthly. This connection of the survey and dedication runs through the consecration ceremonies and the reflexive thoughts of Bonnemain, according to which the heart of Mary is a place of abundance through which God comes into the world. Such celebrations not only strengthen the spiritual life of the deacons, but also offer believers hope for the future.
