Snow chaos in Bludenz: This is how you can support the clearance teams!
Bludenz has prepared for the cold season because the first snowflakes have fallen and the temperatures have dropped noticeably. The city has a dedicated team of snow removal crews ready to clear snow and ice from streets. Mayor Simon Tschann highlights the motivation and preparation of his team, but emphasizes the need for support from citizens.
On snowy days, work starts at four in the morning. The team consists of 22 employees who deploy modern vehicles and equipment such as tractors and trucks. They use a lot: about 200 tons of grit and 270 tons of road salt to keep the roads safe. In order to be well prepared in difficult situations, the storage capacity for road salt has been increased. In extreme snow conditions, additional help is requested from local farmers and freight forwarders.
Responsibility of residents
However, snow removal is not the sole responsibility of the city. Private owners and vehicle owners also have to do their part. Homeowners are obliged to clear and sprinkle snow from the sidewalks and stairwells around their property every day between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. Special rules apply to areas without sidewalks: one meter of the roadside must be cleared.
The owners of stalls also need to be particularly careful as snow and ice must be removed from roofs. Simply pushing snow onto the road is not allowed to ensure safety for pedestrians and other road users. These regulations do not apply to agricultural areas outside the local area, but liability still exists in the event of gross negligence.
“If we all work together, we can fully enjoy the white splendor from above,” says Tschann, who also emphasizes that cooperation between the city and the population is crucial. If you have any questions or problems regarding snow removal, citizens can contact the municipal building department on 05552/63621 or by email at stadt@bludenz.at.
