Bludenz starts its own energy transition: Renewable community founded

In Bludenz, the course for a future -proof energy supply is set. The city council unanimously decided to found a renewable energy community (EEG). This enables the Alpine city to use local power generation from hydropower and photovoltaics (PV), which not only reduces ecological footprint, but also optimizes the city's energy costs.

Mayor Simon Tschann emphasizes how important it is to use the self-generated electricity from the local PV and hydropower plants for urban purposes. "We always wanted to promote energy efficiency. With EEG we will be able to supply our urban buildings, schools and even street lighting independently," explains Tschann, convinced of the advantages of this initiative.

The background of the renewable energy community

The Renewable Expansion Act (EAG) forms the legal basis for the establishment of this EEGS. Such a community allows electricity to generate, store and distribute electricity across property boundaries. This means that all members of the community can benefit from the self -generated energy, which not only increases the security of supply, but is also environmentally friendly.

"The renewable energy community gives us the opportunity to establish a local and sustainable energy supply in Bludenz. We are strengthening our independence from the public network and making an active contribution to the energy transition," says Energy Councilor Martina Brandstetter.

The EEG will probably lead to a significant reduction in energy costs. According to initial estimates, the city will be able to use more than 90 % of the current produced electricity independently. In addition, savings in taxes and discounts that network operators offer for EEGS are hoped for.

The unanimous decision to found the EEG shows the community endeavor to the city of Bludenz to clearly convert the energy supply to renewable sources. With this initiative, an important step is taken in the direction of an environmentally conscious and economically cheap energy future, whereby the city administration is based on the local production of clean energy.

The energy management landscape in Bludenz could change through this step sustainably, which sets the city an important sign for other communities. This development is not only of regional interest, but also underlines the relevance of renewable energies in the context of global energy transition and climate protection.
