Drama in the Zillertal: Czech freerider from avalanche seriously injured!

A dramatic incident occurred in the Hochfügen ski area in the Tyrolean Zillertal when a 51-year-old Czech was seriously injured in an avalanche. On Tuesday, he got into a dangerous situation during the freerid. Together with another Czech, which is 47 years old, the snow board, which suddenly loosened, was carried away by 30 meters. While the 51-year-old was excavated by his companions within three minutes and had to be brought to the Schwaz hospital with a emergency helicopter, the 47-year-old was not injured because he had stayed on the avalanche, like Oe24.at reported.

The snow board and its dangers

The avalanche that led to the violation of the freeride guide had a width of about 50 meters and extended over a length of 100 meters. The incident occurred around 3:15 p.m. when the group wanted to drive down the northeastern slope below the Waidoffen mountain station under the guidance of a 44-year-old guides. It is important to mention that a snowboard is often triggered spontaneously or by additional stress, which significantly increases the danger to winter sports enthusiasts, as the definition of dict.cc .

The group consisted of several freeriders, including participants aged 40 and 35. The 44-year-old guide had previously given the instruction to drive the slope individually. After the guide had reached the bottom, it was said that the 51-year-old just put on the slope, whereupon he fell for reasons unknown. As a result, the snowboard above the two Czechs broke out and they torn away. An incident that impressively illustrates the dangers of freerids and the potential risks of snowboard avalanches.
