Christmas magic begins: Lienz opens the festive season

On Friday, November 22nd, Lienz rang in the Christmas season with a colorful start. In cool temperatures, numerous visitors gathered on the main square to enjoy the traditional Advent market experience. Radio presenter Marlene Fortschnig performed together with brass musicians and local councilors, while Mayor Elisabeth Blanik presented a table-sized Lienz Lebzelten with a spectacular ceremony. This culinary highlight is not only a feast for the eyes, but also a symbol of the start of the contemplative pre-Christmas season.

The atmosphere was festive, despite the cool weather. Traders showcased their wares at the market, which was filled with a variety of stalls. Hot drinks were particularly in demand and helped to arm visitors against the cold. The freshly baked gingerbread was also distributed by Mayor Blanik and City Councilor Siegfried Schatz as part of the usual offerings - a generous gesture that further fueled the festive atmosphere.

The colorful program

The Advent market in Lienz is once again offering a varied program this year that will shorten the waiting time until Christmas. From December 1st, a new window of the region's largest Advent calendar will be unveiled every day in Liebburg, creating additional anticipation. The “Living Workshop” will also be opening, where art and crafts can be experienced in action.

Another highlight will be the nativity scene exhibition, which will take place in the Liebburg from December 6th to 15th. Here visitors can marvel at the creative artistry of the exhibitors. To be on the safe side, Hannes Rohracher, the night watchman, will also make his evening rounds and announce the curfew at 9 p.m. by swinging his halberd. This adds a bit of tradition and lightheartedness to the city's festive atmosphere.
