A touching documentary, inspired by true events, will be premiered on November 16 at the Cinex in Lienz. "My way back", produced by geosfilm, tells the dramatic story of Paula Morandell-Satz, whose experiences during the Second World War are very familiar to many in the European context. Production is based on the impressive records of Paula, which has documented its pain and challenges in the form of a diary.
The work of the Schönegger brothers, Matthias and Hubert, draws from these personal stories and combines documentary elements with feature film scenes to impressively visualize the life of the Morandell family. The film plays between 1939 and 1946 and illuminated, especially from the perspective of the children, the horrors and the trauma that they had to go through.
the personal background
Paula Morandell-Katz was born in Kaltern in 1934 and emigrated to Baden near Vienna with her family when she was still small. There she grew up with her brothers until she had to flee from the Russian troops in 1945, without her father, who was in the war. The dangerous escape led via the Semmering to Bischofshofen, then to Innsbruck and finally over the Brenner back to South Tyrol. On their return, the family was confronted with insults and the children grew up separately with relatives because their mother was unable to provide them with sufficient care.
The challenges seemed endless when Paula was confronted with the loss of a brother who drowned in Lake Kalter, and the death of a newborn child. Nevertheless, Paula describes her life with a certain optimism and zeal by finally becoming an entrepreneur and traveling through the world. Your experiences are not only a testimony to survival, but also for the strength that people can develop in times of crisis.
For the premiere of "My Way Back" on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 6.30 p.m. in the Cinex in Lienz, the tickets are already available. Further information on the event can be found directly in the cinema operator or on the website of dolomitenstadt .
