Studying in nature: Discover universities in Kufstein and Spittal
studying in rural regions has its very special charms. The combination of an idyllic environment and a personal atmosphere draws many students at universities of applied sciences in Austria's district cities. Thomas Madritsch, Managing Director of the FH Kufstein Tirol, emphasizes that the beauty of nature not only represents a positive side effect, but also contributes to an enriching study experience. The sports, cultural and event management course is unique here and offers students the opportunity to actively work in nature, while the ski lifts in Söll can be reached by bus within just 20 minutes.
Another advantage of studying in a small town is the intensive care that every student receives. In Kufstein there are only six students per teacher, which means that personal relationships are encouraged from the start. With a small circle of fellow students you feel part of a community - a clear difference to anonymity, which often prevails at larger universities.
the campus and its advantages
The atmosphere on campus plays a central role for many students. Wolfgang Grillitsch, head of the architecture course at the Carinthian University of Applied Sciences in Spittal an der Drau, emphasizes that the historic building of the university, the "Spittl", creates a special learning environment. Here around 250 students can develop their creativity and work on various projects. Learning in such an inspiring framework promotes exchange among the students and with the teachers alike.
Beyond the external picture, the image of studying has changed in a rural environment. "This idea of backwardness has long been outdated," says Grillitsch. The geographical proximity to living topics of urban planning and the focus on sustainability, such as through the new master's degree in architecture, show that innovative approaches can also be developed far from metropolises.
living situation and transport connections
Another important topic for students is the housing situation. There is already a student dormitory in Kufstein and a second is being planned. Additional living options are also considered in Spittal. Short distances and good transport connections are aspects that are important for many students. "It makes a huge difference whether you cycle to the FH or sit on the bus for a long time," explains Madritsch and refers to the many activities that take place outside the campus, such as excursions to international architecture events.
The FH Kufstein attracts students from a radius of 200 kilometers and beyond. The international orientation of the university, with 228 partner universities, enables a lively exchange, not only the trip to Tyrol, but also opportunities for semester abroad to other attractive goals.
Overall, it can be seen that studying in rural regions is not only attractive because of the beautiful landscapes, but also through close care, the creative learning environment and the numerous international perspectives that result from this. It is a valuable decision that many young people consider. The article by
