New strategy 2028: Wilder Kaiser focuses on sustainable tourism

The general meeting of the Tourism Association (TVB) recently took place in the Wilder Kaiser region, during which a forward-looking “Strategy 2028” was presented. The meeting took place on October 22nd and dealt with the course for the next few years in order to make tourism in the region sustainable. A central topic of the discussion was the planned increase in the local tax to 3.50 euros, which will apply from December 1, 2025.

The region, known for its impressive mountains and diverse leisure opportunities, attaches great importance to further developing its tourist offerings. It is important to the TVB to also offer activities that are not exclusively geared towards skiing or hiking experiences. This new strategy aims to provide travelers with meaningful experiences year-round and showcase the region as an attractive place to live.

The vision: sustainability and quality of life

The “Strategy 2028” formulates a clear vision for the coming years: a high quality of life together with economically successful and sustainably oriented tourism. This not only includes the willingness to react to changes in everyday life influenced by tourism, but also the identification of new trends in order to better take the needs of guests and locals into account. According to tourism consultant Renate Ecker, the strategy is seen as an answer to the challenges of modern tourism, which increasingly needs to be environmentally conscious.

During the presentation, Ecker emphasized the need to respond to what has worked in the past as well as what urgently needs to change. The preliminary surveys and interviews showed that a majority supported the desired changes and wanted a comprehensive improvement in tourism offerings.

In view of the diverse challenges, including climate change and changing purchasing power, TVB is following a clear plan with this strategy. Managing Director Lukas Krösslhuber clarified that the strategy not only includes measures for improvement, but also defines a general direction for the region's tourism development.

Key points of the 2028 strategy

The strategy is divided into four central areas that are crucial for future development:

In order to achieve these goals, the TVB emphasizes the importance of a common understanding and efficient cooperation between all actors.

Another result of the general assembly is the decision to increase the local tax. This measure is part of an obligation and was not only considered necessary, but also classified as market-oriented in order to secure long-term investments in tourism infrastructure.

The additional income from the higher local tax is planned to be used to invest in marketing, mobility and the maintenance of regional infrastructure. Among other things, digital transformation is not ignored in order to meet the social and ecological requirements of modern travel.

“With this increase, the local tax is in the middle of comparable regions,” said those responsible. This shows that TVB Wilder Kaiser is ready to proactively face the challenges of the next few years in order to keep the region attractive not only for tourists but also for locals. The TVB thus remains on course to promote the Wilder Kaiser as a place to live and experience and to position it sustainably for the future.
