Students in Vienna lose study places: Red alert for ADMISSION!
In the summer semester of 2024, almost 2,000 students at Austrian universities had to give up their places because they were unable to meet the minimum academic achievements that have been in effect for two years. At the University of Vienna alone, over 1,100 students were affected by this regulation crown reported. While some universities such as the art universities and medical universities in Vienna had no cases to report, others suffered from the fact that the minimum academic achievement was not achieved in 277 courses at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. At the University of Innsbruck there were 163 and at the Technical University of Vienna 110.
The influence of this regulation is particularly clear in the lack of examination activities: At the University of Vienna, around 524 of the 1,150 affected studies did not complete a single examination, while a further 330 students ended their studies early. The remaining students had between 1 and 15 ECTS points, with only 61 study results just missing the target. At the same time, however, it can be seen that not a single case occurred at ten of the 21 affected universities, which made the regulations a real examination challenge.
