Grease and Saturday Night Fever: Musical highlights in Austria 2025
A new performance of the iconic musical “Grease” will be presented in various cities in Austria in 2025. This exciting production, based on the famous musical film starring John Travolta, will be shown in Vienna, Linz, Graz, Innsbruck and Bregenz in February and March. “Saturday Night Fever” is also shown in Mörbisch in the summer.
Ben Darcy, who plays the role of Danny, commented on the expectations of the production: "We want to do justice to the original, because everyone knows 'Grease'. The material is iconic." He emphasized the need to bring fresh ideas to engage the generations already familiar with history.
The timeless appeal of “Grease”
Lead actress Lottie Power, who plays Sandy, explained why the musical remains relevant to so many people: "The story is about teenagers and deals with first love and the pain of separation - themes that everyone can relate to." She is thrilled to now be able to present the well-known songs on stage instead of in the living room: “I often sing these songs in the shower or at karaoke, now it's exciting to sing them live.”
Darcy added that "Grease" captures the "mystical feel that surrounds the '50s." This era, full of rock and roll, remains fascinating for many: "As a kid, John Travolta was the coolest guy. That connection is timeless." He remembered how he himself performed parts of the musical as a little boy and now feels like he has been transported into this role again.
The production will be on display in the Museumsquartier Vienna from February 11th to 23rd. Special surprises are planned for the production, including dancers being integrated into the show, some of whom will perform on roller skates. Power joked: "I hope I don't get prepared for roller skating, that might hurt my ankles."
Information about the performance
While preparations are still in their infancy, expectations for the show are high. Pieces like “Summer Nights”, “You’re The One That I Want” and the show opener of the same name “Grease” will take the audience into the glittering world of the 50s. The ensemble will tour at various locations in Austria, with stops in Bregenz, Linz, Innsbruck and Graz, making the diversity of comedy and music accessible to all generations.
