Tragedy in the mountains: Search for missing hikers ends fatally

In the Tyrolean mountains, a tragic Situation has developed that cost the life of a young mountaineer. The 21-year-old started on Thursday with a compatriot from the parking lot of the Rauthhütte in Telfs to climb the summit. While his friend reversed due to the onset of snow, the young man continued to climb. In the early afternoon, around 3:40 p.m., he reached the summit and sent a voice email to his buddy in the valley shortly after 4:00 p.m., where he asked for help and had an emergency call triggered.

The subsequent search was extensive. 27 members of the mountain rescue Telfs immediately made their way to the scene of the accident. Unfortunately, the first search was unsuccessful and had to be canceled at 9:00 p.m. due to the poor weather conditions, the danger of the site and the falling darkness. Use of a police helicopter was not possible, which also complicated the situation.

continuation of the search and discovery of the body

On Friday, the rescue team had to wait again before continuing the search. During the new search, a lifeless person who was in an exposed situation was finally discovered. However, the search team, which was 100 to 150 meters from the fallen person, could not get off due to the risk of falling. Further attempts to recover the body failed again on Saturday, since snow, fog and strong winds make the rescue work significantly more difficult.

The events illustrate the risks associated with mountaineering, especially in uncertain weather conditions. It remains unclear what condition the young man was at the time of his crash, but his emergency call signals the seriousness of the situation in which he was in. The mountain rescue will continue to try to clarify the situation and take further measures to improve security in the mountains.
