Tyrol's security system: Alarming also guaranteed in the event of power failures
Despite the challenges that power failures can bring, the security in Tyrol remains guaranteed by a sophisticated warning and alarm system. In crisis situations in which the electricity could be out, emergency services such as the police, fire brigade and emergency services can be alerted quickly. This system, known as WAS-TIROL, uses 156 transmission masts, all of which are equipped with emergency power batteries. In this way, relevant information can be transmitted quickly even if the power grid does not work.
With a remarkable infrastructure, Tyrol guarantees that emergency calls will be processed immediately even in the event of power failures. Security Councilor Astrid Mair emphasizes the importance of an effective alarm system. "The alarm has to happen quickly, especially in an emergency situation. Therefore, it is crucial that our system works perfectly even with technical problems or electricity interruptions," she explains. Furthermore, the citizens must be warned at any time so that the installation of a robust system is of great importance.
emergency power supply for all operations
The alarm takes place via special radio devices attached to the transmission masts. In the event of an operation, the emergency services are not only warned by radio, but also receive a short text message with initial information directly on one of the over 16,000 pagers that are used in Tyrol. This information is sent over all alarm conversions at the same time, so that every minute counts.
Each transmission mast is designed in such a way that it remains operational for at least 48 hours even in the event of a power failure. If there is a longer failure, the masts can be supplied by mobile emergency power units that are operated by the local fire brigades. "About half of the siren in Tyrol also has emergency power batteries, which enables to continue to warn in crisis situations such as floods or muries," explains Alois Angerer, head of the radio technology department of the State of Tyrol.
comprehensive communication
In addition to the WAS-TIROL, the operational organizations in Tyrol have a far-reaching digital radio network. This network enables direct communication between the authorities, the police and fire brigade and comprises around 14,000 radio devices. Bernd Noggler, the board of directors of the control center department, describes the importance of this network: "The density of radio base stations is so high that over 95 percent of the country area is covered, even in difficult terrain."
What is particularly emphasized: Even in a blackout, this radio network remains ready for operation with a unique A location concept. "This means that even in the event of a total power failure, the alarm of the emergency services is ensured by the control center," added Noggler. These forward -looking measures significantly strengthen the operational readiness in Tyrol and offer citizens security in uncertain times.
A team of technicians from the control center department work tirelessly on the maintenance and operation of these systems, which can be decisive in an emergency. Care and equipment of these systems are potentially life -saving and show the commitment of the Tyrolean authorities for the safety of their population.
