New winter semester at the theological faculties: A look at the opening
With the beginning of October, the new winter semester is opened at the Catholic theological faculties in Austria. At various locations, including Linz, Salzburg, Graz and Innsbruck, there are numerous programs and changes that the students expect in this academic year
in Linz, on October 1, the semester at the Catholic Private University (KU) was ceremoniously opened. Here the new rector, Prof. Michael Fuchs, takes over the management. Fuchs succeeds Prof. Christoph nobody and was appointed by Bishop Manfred Scheuer for the next three years of study. At the ceremonial opening on October 2, both the outgoing and the new rector welcomed the students.
new ring lectures and topics
A highlight of the winter semester on the KU Linz is the new public ring lecture entitled "Discourses of the public", which begins on October 9th. In this series, experts deal with topics such as religion, politics, democracy and digitization. The first lecture is held by sociologist Silke Steets and addresses the design of public spaces.
The University of Innsbruck also starts an interesting ring lecture that deals with the resistance of young people in totalitarian systems. This series, led by Prof. Dominik Markl, includes lectures on historical and current topics, whereby the start on October 8th. The students can expect an interdisciplinary discussion about various persecution experiences and their treatment as well as a look at the current Situation of young activists in Russia.
Personnel changes and new deans
In Graz, the students also expect a new face in the faculty tour. Prof. Katharina Pyschny was the first woman to take over the dean in the long history of the faculty. It is supported by a new team of vice -channels that cover different disciplines.
The winter semester has already started in Salzburg. There the new professor Andreas Scheib gave the opening lecture. Other new professors have been appointed and a new professorship for dogmatics will be filled this week. These developments show the dynamic structure and the continuous relevance of theology, as well as Dean Prof. Dietmar Winkler emphasized in his opening words.These changes and initiatives at the various faculties illustrate the continuous development and adaptation of theological training in the country. The coming weeks will show how these new structures affect students.
