Stephanie Venier triumphs in the Super-G: A fantastic World Cup victory!
Austrian ski racer Stephanie Venier scored an impressive victory at the Super-G in Crans-Montana. The 31-year-old needed 1:16.52 minutes for the route and relegated her Italian competitors Federica Brignone (0.04 seconds behind) and the Super-G world champion Marta Bassino (0.15 seconds behind) to places. This is not only Venier's third World Cup victory, but also her first in the Super-G discipline, making this triumph all the more significant skiworldcup.tv reported.
An emotional race
Venier was already nervous before the start, as she admitted after the race: "I was extremely nervous at the start and had been extremely nervous all day. But that was probably a good omen," she said and was visibly relieved after her great run in the interview with "ORF". Waiting for the last runners gave her additional tension: “This waiting is difficult,” explained the Tyrolean, who considered strengthening her performance in the upper part of the piste to be crucial for her victory. The competition took place in almost perfect conditions on the “Piste Mont Lachaux”, a popular location for ski racing, and turned out to be another highlight of the speed weekend.
The ranking was completed by Romane Miradoli in fourth place (0.28 seconds behind) and the Austrian athlete Cornelia Hütter (0.45 seconds behind). Lara Gut-Behrami, the overall World Cup leader from Switzerland, remains at the top of the overall World Cup with a lead of 205 points over the injured American Mikaela Shiffrin. Hütter remains close to Gut-Behrami and could bring exciting developments in the Super-G World Cup, while the other talents, such as the Norwegian Kajsa Vickhoff Lie and the Czech Ester Ledecka, also placed prominently.
