Weiz is flourishing culturally: looking back on a year full of highlights

In Weiz, culture is an integral part of social life and has developed into a real magnet. The year 2023 could go down in the city's history as another outstanding cultural year - more than 100,000 visitors have already enjoyed the diverse offerings. The cultural office has ambitious plans to further expand its success and is offering numerous events in the coming period.

Johann König, cultural manager in Weiz, proudly describes: “Last year was great, but we have planned great events again for this fall.” This positive development was supported by a wide range of events that appeal to different target groups.

Highlights of the program

This was one of the outstanding events this yearDixie and Swing Festival, which drew about 3,000 visitors to the city. That toointernational street art festival La Stradaand thatAIMS Festivalexcited many people. The artist's exhibition also took placeChris Scheuerwas well received and attracted over 500 art enthusiasts. These figures show that Weiz is becoming increasingly popular as a cultural location and offers a variety of events to suit every taste.

The autumn program is particularly diverse and is led by Eva Glössl, who has been working in the cultural office since March. She brings valuable experience from her previous work at Herberstein Castle and will offer cabaret events in addition to classical music. This is a step towards presenting both local and international artists and getting young people excited about culture, as curator Georg Gratzer emphasizes: “We are able to pick up children and young people early and provide them with creative food for thought.”

Cabaret and family offers

The offer for the cultural autumn also includes an exciting cabaret program and events for families. Immediately afterMichael Jackson Tribute Live ExperienceHerbert Pixner's sold-out concerts will follow on October 25th. Lostboi Lino will be on stage on November 10th, followed by other top-class acts likeJulian Grabmayerand thePoxrucker Sisters, who will delight fans with their performances.

Additionally, events are planned for younger visitors, including:Popella Festivalon October 25th and the event withPeppa Pigon November 22nd. The cabaret artist will present himself on October 18thTricky Nikiand brings his program “Großenwahn” to the stage, while Andreas Vitasek will entertain his audience with “Spätlese” on November 5th.

The cultural offering is supplemented by an exhibition in the city gallery in the Kunsthaus, which is held together with theinternational gallery Pashmin Artfrom October 24th will show works by Asian and European artists. As part of this event, there will be a panel discussion on October 17th in memory of the Weizer artist and honorary citizenHannes Schwarzwill take place, which marks the start of an exciting three-year project.
