State election 2024: FPÖ triumphs in the Weiz district – results in detail
The 2024 state elections in Styria are now over and the results are in. A total of 941,509 eligible voters in Styria were called upon to cast their votes, of which 72,385 votes were cast in the Weiz district. This year, a total of 48 members were up for election to the state parliament, made up of various party lists, including the ÖVP, SPÖ, FPÖ, GREENS, KPÖ and NEOS.
The electoral process has been marked by changeable forecasts, and the current results suggest significant shifts in the district's political landscape.
The election results in the Weiz district
The ÖVP has recorded a significant decline and only achieved 33.74 percent of the vote, compared to 42 percent in the last election in 2019. This change represents a loss of over 8 percentage points. In contrast, the FPÖ is enjoying strong growth and can now record 36.21 percent of the vote, which represents a drastic increase of almost 19 points. The SPÖ accounts for 17.37 percent, a decrease of around 5 percent. The Greens face 5.07 percent, which is also a decrease compared to 2019's 10.24 percent. The NEOS came to 4.79 percent, while the KPÖ remained stable at 2.82 percent.
A similar picture emerges in the urban areas of Weiz and Gleisdorf. Here the FPÖ also achieved a clear victory in Weiz with 27.61 percent (2019: 11.76%) and in Gleisdorf with 33.82 percent (2019: 18.31%). The ÖVP ended up with 24.34 percent in Weiz (2019: 26.95%) and in Gleisdorf with 28.04 percent (2019: 36.46%). The SPÖ received 31.93 percent in Weiz and 16.27 percent in Gleisdorf, with both values remaining almost stable. The Greens showed another remarkable result, achieving 6.94 percent in Weiz (2019: 11.64%) and 9.89 percent (2019: 17.35%) in Gleisdorf.
Interestingly, the rates of change for both the ÖVP and the Greens are relatively strong compared to 2019, possibly indicating voters' growing dissatisfaction with current political decisions. In the future, this could lead to a realignment in the district's political affiliation.
