HTL Steyr shines with a double victory in the Zero Emission Challenge

A significant success for the students of HTL Steyr was recently celebrated at the “Zero Emission Challenge” in Weiz. The school's two teams competed in this competition, which is dedicated to the topic of emission-free mobility, and fortunately achieved a double victory. This event, which allowed students to demonstrate their technical expertise, was accompanied by a variety of challenges that required both skill and teamwork.

The participants had the task of constructing self-developed or modified karts that were equipped with environmentally friendly drive systems such as electric motors or fuel cells. These innovative vehicles were not only tested in various dynamic tests on the ARBÖ Driving Safety Center Ludersdorf track, but also presented in static disciplines. This included technical tests and presentations in English in which students explained how their karts worked.

Technical challenges and team spirit

The challenge for the participants was enormous. The competitive atmosphere reminded many of the exciting world of motorsport. One participant described the feeling by saying: “It almost felt like Formula 1”. Thanks to the strong cohesion within the teams and the support of their dedicated teachers, the students achieved excellent results in all categories of the competition while leading the field of 23 teams. At the end of the day they were happy with the first two places in the overall ranking.

The jury and spectators were impressed by the professionalism and innovative ideas of the budding engineers. The competition not only highlighted students' technical skills, but also encouraged commitment to sustainable mobility and environmentally friendly technologies. These types of events are critical to preparing the next generation of engineers to develop innovative solutions to the challenges of the future.
