HTL Steyr celebrates a double victory in the Zero Emission Challenge

There was recently an exciting event in Weiz that put the technical skills of students to the test. The HTL Steyr was able to achieve remarkable success and triumphed in the nationwide “Zero Emission Challenge”. It was the first time that the two mechanical engineering and vehicle technology teams took part in this competition, and right from the start they secured an outstanding double victory.

The competition was entirely focused on the topic of emission-free mobility and offered the students the platform to demonstrate their technical know-how. The participants had to prove themselves in various disciplines by sending self-developed or optimized karts into the race. These karts were equipped with environmentally friendly drives, such as electric motors or fuel cells. The preparation not only included dynamic tests such as acceleration races and endurance tests on the demanding track of the ARBÖ driving safety center in Ludersdorf, but also static tests. This required technical evaluations and English-language presentations to a jury of experts in which the students explained how their vehicles worked.

Great achievements from HTL Steyr

The two HTL Steyr teams harmonized excellently and achieved top ratings in all categories. With the support of committed teachers and a strong team spirit, they managed to lead the field of participants of a total of 23 teams. The result was impressive: first place and second place in the overall ranking. One participant described: "The atmosphere was electric. Between the excitement and the final optimizations in the pits, it almost felt like Formula 1."

This success is not only a testament to the high quality of education at HTL Steyr, but also an important sign for the young people who can act as future engineers and developers in the field of sustainable mobility. Participating in such a demanding competition will certainly provide them with valuable experience for their future careers. In times when environmental protection and reducing emissions are becoming increasingly important, student engagement is of utmost importance.
