Voitsberg improves flood protection with new sirens

The shattering pictures of the flood in the dough ditch, which hit the region last July, are still in the memory of the people. At a time when many are affected by the consequential damage, the municipality of Voitsberg took decisive steps to increase citizens. In cooperation with the disaster protection of the State of Styria, new sirens are now being installed that are supposed to warn of possible floods.

Mayor Bernd Ouprian informed that one of the new sirens will be installed at the Gößnitz pumping station, while the second siren will find its place at the Franz Weiß-Museum in Zangtal. These measures are part of the endeavor to alert the population in good time in the event of impending flood events.

additional security measures

But not only new sirens are set up. The existing siren at the Oberländer estate, which previously only raised the alarm in the event of a breach of dam, is equipped with a new acoustic signal. The aim of this is to warn the population even more effectively in flood conditions. At the same time, the siren at the Arnstein power plant is adapted accordingly to improve the warning signal. These new functions are not only practical improvements, but also vital measures for the residents.

The devastations that the Gößnitz and Teigitsch arranged last summer are not to be forgotten. In Krottendorf-Gaisfeld in particular, massive damage was experienced when large amounts of water flowed through the municipal area and there were cladding. This made comprehensive emergency care necessary, and under the difficult conditions, the emergency vehicle of the Gaisfeld volunteer fire brigade was badly damaged. As a result, this had to procure an older but well -maintained vehicle from the Sparberegg volunteer fire brigade in Eastern Styria.

The new sirens are an important progress in the region's emergency prevention and should help to better manage future disasters. Such measures are indispensable in order to be able to react quickly in an emergency and to protect the citizens in the best possible way. In times when extreme weather conditions occur more frequently, such an infrastructure is of great importance.

Overall, this procedure shows how important it is to react to previous events and to develop continuously in order to ensure the safety of the population. The importance of disaster protection is also brought to the fore by such initiatives. Many municipalities in the district are busy learning from past experiences and taking appropriate measures to improve the quality of life and security of their residents.
