Reading on dementia: Johanna Constantini presents Offside 2 in Voitsberg
On December 12th at 6:30 p.m. the “akzente” association invites you to a reading by Johanna Constantini in the Dachbodentheater Voitsberg. This is done in collaboration with the Voitsberg city library and the needs network Dementia Styria in order to draw attention to the important topic of dementia.
Dementia is one of the greatest challenges facing our society: 55 million people suffer from it worldwide, with 11 million affected in Europe alone. The situation is particularly alarming in Austria, where around 130,000 people live with dementia - this number could double by 2050 due to demographic developments.
Insights into everyday life with dementia
Johanna Constantini, who works as a clinical psychologist, shares personal experiences in her new book “Offside 2 – About Learning and Unlearning Experiences”. She describes dealing with her father, Didi Constantini, a former football team boss in Austria, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease. The author sheds light on how her daughter Frida's learning experiences are reflected in her father's "unlearning experiences". This perspective offers valuable insights into the emotional world of those affected and their families.
Claudia Nestler from the Voitsberg public library emphasizes that events like this aim to raise more awareness of dementia. She emphasizes the need to provide information and break the taboo that often exists. Ultimately, any family can be affected by this issue and it requires both medical and social and cultural approaches to deal with it.
Admission to the reading is free, but you are asked to register in advance by calling 03142/21 315. The event will be accompanied musically by students from the Voitsberg Music School. After the reading there will be a buffet offering the opportunity for discussions and exchange.
