Advent run 2023: Light of hope for flood victims in Köflach
In the charming city of Köflach, a special event will take place again this year. The traditional Advent run, which is organized for the 18th time by Alfred Gert and his committed team, leads over a distance of 140 kilometers from Mariazell to Köflach. This year, the event is all about the help of the flood victims, especially for the Trattner family, who suffered serious damage in Teigitschgraben. The event takes place in the night from the 14th to December 15th and is shaped by a deep human note.
Alfred Gert recently visited the affected family Trattner, who has not been able to inhabit their owner -managed houses since the devastating flood. Hildegard and Werner Trattner had to fall back on emergency shelters because their apartments are still uninhabitable. "Hildegard Trattner kept coming tears while telling," said Gert with visible compassion. The total damage is estimated at at least 200,000 euros, while the family has so far only received 25,000 euros from various funds and insurance companies. This imbalance motivates Gert to donate the income of the Advent run for the affected family.
a run full of solidarity
The tradition of the Advent run has already collected considerable sums for charitable purposes in recent years. According to Gert, more than 40,000 euros were raised for the needy in the previous 17 editions. "We are back to service the good cause this year," said Gert. Preparations for this special run are in full swing and the participants are expectant. On December 14th, the peace light of Superior Michael Staberl will be handed over in the Mariazell pilgrimage church. Together with around 30 other people, the light is then taken on the long trip to Köflach.
The runners will start in Mariazell in the late afternoon at 1:30 p.m. and go on a 21-hour route. The route leads you to the night and the first light of the morning, which you will receive together in Köflach. The arrival will take place on December 15th at 10:15 a.m. during a peace fair, which is enriched with artistic performances. The event is not only a sporting competition, but also a sign of community and solidarity.
committed supporters and donations
This year the event will be accompanied by a large number of supporters, including Mayor Jochen Bocksruker and City Councilor Andreas Albrecher, who belong to the group of West Styrians who join the run. René Pöschl from Köflacher Rathauscafé is also active as a supporter and has won new sponsors for the event. These community actions show how strong cohesion in the region is, especially in moments of need.
For those who cannot take part in the run but still want to help, there is the possibility to provide donations at any time. A special donation account called "Advent Run 2024" is ready to support the flood victims. The IBAN is AT78 3848 /000 0607 4140 and the BIC is RZStat2G487. Every contribution, no matter how small, can make a difference.
This advent run not only embodies the spirit of Christmas, but also the strength of the community in times of the crisis. In addition to the sporting aspect, the event is a symbol of hope and help for all those who have suffered from the flood. The participation and support of the run bring light and confidence to the hearts of those affected.
