A spectacular cell phone robbery shocked the city of Salzburg in December 2024 and is now having far-reaching consequences. How SALZBURG24 Reportedly, a 25-year-old Syrian was attacked by four unknown perpetrators during the crime, who not only stole his expensive smartphone, but also used pepper spray against him. The masterminds were filmed escaping using surveillance cameras, which ultimately led to their identification.

Investigations and arrests

During the course of the investigation, the police were able to arrest two of the four suspected perpetrators. On January 18, 2025, a 33-year-old Tunisian was caught in Leoben in Styria. During his interrogation, the identity of another suspect was revealed, a 28-year-old Moroccan, who was also arrested on the same day. Both are now in custody. The escape of the remaining two Moroccan accomplices, aged 26 and 32, is currently being pursued with a European arrest warrant, reports ORF Salzburg.

The rapid resolution of the case shows the efficiency of the police, who received crucial information from the video recordings to quickly identify and arrest the suspects.
