Successful squad training in Lebring: Firefighters ready for action

October 5, 2024 was a special day for around 60 firefighters from the Hartberg and Leoben areas. They gathered at the Styrian State Fire Brigade and Civil Defense School in Lebring to complete their basic training II, also known as “squadman training”. This training day was not only an important step in their careers as firefighters, but also an opportunity to gain knowledge and practical skills.

After a warm welcome, led by the area training officers from the fire departments in Hartberg and Leoben as well as the training officer from the fire department school, an overview of the area and the daily routine was given. The training officers encouraged those present to actively participate and support each other to get the most out of the day.

Practical training at various stations

Participants had the opportunity to learn practical skills at several stations that are crucial for their future work as firefighters. The topics included, among other things, working with jet pipes, using foam as an extinguishing agent, using rescue equipment, using portable ladders and fighting incipient fires and woodpile fires.

  • Strahlrohre
  • Löschmittel Schaum
  • Rettungsgeräte
  • Tragbare Leitern
  • Entstehungsbrandbekämpfung
  • Holzstapelbrand

At each station, the prospective firefighters first received theoretical instructions, which were then immediately implemented in practical exercises. The two area representatives, BI d. F. Hans Jürgen Semler and HBI d. F. Martin Leinweber, reported on the positive feedback and progress of the participants during the final meeting. This feedback shows that the day was both educational and motivating.

The successful graduates of Basic Training II have now laid the foundation for their further training. In the future, all doors of the fire brigade school will be open to you to take additional specialist courses and apply the knowledge you have learned in your voluntary service to the community. A successful day that sets the course for future challenges as firefighters.
