MedMobil 1450: New 24-hour service for Styrian health
As part of the continuous improvement of healthcare in Styria, a new pilot project was launched called MedMobil 1450. This innovative offering was developed to optimize medical support during after-hours. The health hotline 1450, which has been active around the clock since 2019, is now receiving a significant addition. The first implementations in three major regions, including the Leibnitz/Wildon region, have been in operation since October 2024.
The initiative was presented by various representatives of the state, including State Health Councilor Karlheinz Kornhäusl and club chairman Hannes Schwarz. “No matter where someone lives, health care should not make any difference,” explains Kornhäusl, who emphasizes the creation of a comprehensive service for the population. This ensures that medical help is available even in the late hours.
A comprehensive healthcare offering
The health telephone 1450 now offers a wide range of services. Qualified health and nursing staff are on duty who not only provide telephone consultations, but also establish the fastest contact with doctors on duty. One goal is for an on-call doctor to come to the patient's home as quickly as possible if necessary.
The new MedMobil 1450 service acts as an additional visiting service. This will be offered, initially for six months, in the southern (Leibnitz/Wildon), northern (Kindberg/Bruck) and eastern (Weiz/Gleisdorf) regions. The standby regions in which this offer is available include various communities, such as ARNfels and Ehrenhausen an der Weinstraße in Leibnitz as well as Aller Heiligen near Wildon and Dobl-Zwaring.
“With the MedMobil 1450 – Styria, we are sending a clear signal for citizen-oriented healthcare,” says Hannes Schwarz. The focus of this project is on quick access to medical help, no matter what time of day. In the second quarter of 2024, the health telephone 1450 received around 20,000 calls, with the average pickup time being just 14 seconds.
The health hotline offers many services, including information about open pharmacies, medical on-call service and visiting doctors if the caller needs it. It is now also possible to reach a pediatrician by phone if necessary, especially on weekends.
For those who need medical support outside of regular office hours, MedMobil 1450 offers a valuable service. It shows that healthcare in Styria is not only flexible but also adaptable to meet the needs of citizens. Implementing measures to strengthen trust in the healthcare system will continue to be a focus to ensure the best possible care.
