ÖAMTC heroes triumph: Austria at the European Roadside Assistance Championship in Switzerland!

In a competition that tests the expertise of roadside responders, Matthias Krumpholz and Jordan Simeonovic will represent Austria in Lausanne, Switzerland in October 2025. The international competition, officially called the European Roadside Assistance Championship, brings together teams from across the European Union. The ÖAMTC selected the two Viennese technicians after an intensive qualifying in which they had to prevail against teams from all Austrian federal states. The qualifying tasks included roadside assistance on various types of vehicles, including internal combustion engine cars, electric and hybrid vehicles, as well as bicycles and motorcycles, which had to be solved within a certain time limit.

Herbert Zwanzinger, head of technical quality management at the ÖAMTC, emphasizes how challenging the various tasks were. Krumpholz and Simeonovic will compete in Switzerland against the best breakdown helpers in Europe and compete with their international colleagues.

International cooperation and experiences

Parallel to the preparations for the European Championships, another group of Austrian breakdown helpers from the ÖAMTC is taking part in an important competition in Slovenia. Leonie Tieber and Markus Resetarits from the ÖAMTC base Graz West have qualified for the FIA Road Patrol Training, which will take place in Vransko from October 17th to 20th, 2023. This event, which is organized together with a partner club from Slovenia, the AMZS, promotes the international exchange of experiences between mobility clubs, such as the ÖAMTC, which recorded a total of 662,677 mobile breakdown assistance missions in Austria in 2022.

The director of the ÖAMTC, Oliver Schmerold, emphasizes the essential role of roadside assistance for members and emphasizes the high quality of the mobile services. The qualification conditions were also extensive; Six teams, each with two breakdown drivers from different ÖAMTC state clubs, took part in the preliminary round in Vienna.

Professional excellence in focus

The challenges of the competition once again included breakdowns on a wide variety of vehicle types and required comprehensive technical skills and excellent customer service. The winners of the qualifying also had to master a competition with a hydrogen-powered car, which underlines the importance of sustainable technologies in mobility.

The importance of such international competitions is also supported by ARC Europe, an organization that was founded in 1991 and includes eight leading automobile clubs in Europe such as the ÖAMTC. ARC Europe is committed to improving services for members and supporting drivers in need.

The two events underline the commitment of the ÖAMTC and its partners to promoting technical knowledge and excellent roadside service in Europe. Participation in such competitions not only recognizes professional excellence, but also promotes international exchange, which is of great benefit to all member organizations.
