New elementary school Reininghaus opened: Education for the future in Graz
The opening of a new educational institution is the focus of attention in Graz. With an investment of around 24 million euros, the modern elementary school at the Reininghaus education campus was completed. This school, together with the Puntigam elementary school, is now one of the largest elementary schools in Styria. School operations began in September and was officially inaugurated on November 6th.
The opening speech kept the education city councilor Kurt Hohensinner, who highlighted the importance of this new elementary school. He emphasized that Graz should be a city in which all children have the opportunity to fully develop their talents. Hohensinner pointed out that a total of 200 million euros were invested in education in the first two grips programs, with a special focus on the elementary schools. The Reininghaus elementary school is described as a showcase project that is not only impressed by its size, but was also designed as a central element of the redesigned district.

Bildungsdöresrat Werner Amon emphasized the positive development of the Graz educational landscape by the construction of this school. With over 20 classes, the Reininghaus elementary school will be one of the largest in the region and offers a modern, sustainable learning environment, which is characterized by many open spaces. Special focus is on linguistic education, creative design and team sports. Amon wished the school community a lot of joy and success in the new environment.

- School start: In the school year 2024/25, over 160 students should come to school.
- Class structure: six 1st classes and two 2nd classes, supplemented by a partner class.
- Special feature: The second classes were shifted to Reininghaus by the Neuhart elementary school.
The three -storey building offers innovative learning rooms, designed according to the concept of the "Future Classrooms". The facilities include numerous creative rooms, a multi -purpose hall as well as a gymnasium and a central library. The spacious outdoor facilities are equipped with a school place, sports areas and a school garden. A special feature are the controlled ventilation systems that guarantee a pleasant learning atmosphere.
ecological initiatives and future developments
Special highlights of the construction project include:
- fresh air supply and measures against summer overheating
- green learning terraces with sun protection
- ecologically adapted construction for a healthy learning environment
- green roof with an integrated photovoltaic system
- movement areas at all levels of the building
- strategic plans for future projects in the field of education
The city of Graz plans to further expand the school landscape, which includes the following projects:
- The Puntigam middle school is expanded to 12 classes and two poly classes, which should be completed by 2025.
- The construction of a middle school in the Smart City district is planned in addition to the Reininghaus elementary school, which is to provide the move of the current middle school in Algersdorf until the opening in 2026.
- The Algersdorf sports agent school is planning an expansion that should be completed by 2028.
