Green ray of hope: Photovoltaic Park Dobl supplies 6,000 households from 2025
in the DOBL-Zwaring region, near Graz, has been set the groundbreaking ceremony for the largest photovoltaic park in Styria. From 2025, this ambitious project will supply over 6,000 households in Graz environment with clean, green electricity. On an area of around 20 hectares, the PV park will produce more than 22 million kilowatt hours of electricity every year, which contributes to saving over 6,300 tons of CO2 per year.
Energy Styria, together with its partner Enery, invests around 13 million euros in the construction of this sustainable energy source. The goals of the Styrian state government are high: by 2030, photovoltaic production in Styria is to be quadrupled. The new park in Dobl-Zwaring helps to achieve this goal in more detail. "We connected more than 15,000 new facilities in the previous year alone," explains Christian Purrer, one of the board members of Energie Styria. "This corresponds to the performance of 18 medium -sized Murpower plants."
sustainable land use
A special aspect of this photovoltaic project is the fact that agricultural double use is operated. Sheep are kept in the area, which continues to use the soil for agriculture, while at the same time renewable energy is generated. Richard König, CEO of Enery Development, emphasizes the importance of cooperation: "We have been developing this project since 2020 and are pleased to be able to start building together with Energie Styria." This cooperation shows how important it is to find innovative solutions for sustainable energy.
state politician, including Governor Christopher Drexler, emphasize the importance of such projects for energy independence and climate protection in Styria. "This is an essential step to achieve our climate and energy goals," said Drexler. The support of the municipality of Dobl-Zwaring is remarkable: Mayor Waltraud Walch sees the PV Park as a pioneering project for the future. "It is important that we leave a healthy environment to our children," she adds.
The coming years will be crucial to create the necessary infrastructure for the expansion of renewable energies. Energy Styria plans to invest more than 1.5 billion euros in the conversion and upgrading of the network infrastructure. Of this, more than 600 million euros are planned for the expansion of renewable energies. However, the challenge remains to ensure sufficient capacities in the existing network, while new photovoltaic systems are installed on free-standing areas.
The implementation of such projects is part of a larger initiative that aims to advance the use of renewable energies in Styria. This not only includes large solar parks, but also the integration of solar energy on roofs of residential and commercial buildings. This happens in the hope of reducing the dependence on fossil fuels and promoting a greener lifestyle.
