Strengthening digital resilience: Experts discuss cyber strategies in Graz

Last week, an important focus discussion by Leitbetriebe Austria took place on the premises of Knapp AG in Graz. Experts from various industries came together to discuss digital resilience and cybersecurity. It became clear that the challenges posed by cyber attacks are constantly increasing and companies must take proactive measures to protect themselves.

The event, which took place on November 14th, focused in particular on cyber resilience, the NIS2 directive and the integration of ERP systems. Franz Mathi, COO of Knapp AG, emphasized the need for regular, internal security audits to remain competitive in today's digital world. He explained: "The biggest challenge is people. Only through proactive measures can we sustainably strengthen the resilience of our organization." These words underscore the importance of investing in employee training.

Cyber resilience and legal framework

In addition, Stefan Tauber, lawyer at Schiefer Rechtsanwälte GmbH, spoke about the NIS2 directive, which sets out important legal requirements for cybersecurity. He emphasized that securing critical systems and a well-thought-out emergency plan are essential in the event of an emergency. Tauber emphasized: “The NIS2 Directive marks a crucial milestone in the EU’s cyber security strategy and is intended to strengthen both the public and private sectors.” This makes close cooperation with IT security experts necessary.

In the discussion about the integration of ERP systems, which are described as the “heart” of a company, Hans-Peter Gasser, Customer Strategy Manager at Cosmo Consult GmbH, stated that regular audits and penetration tests are crucial to identify potential risks at an early stage. These systems link internal processes and are therefore particularly vulnerable to cyberattacks. Gasser appealed to companies to provide these systems with the necessary security mechanisms.

Knapp AG, recognized as a pioneer in logistics and automation, was an example of how important cyber resilience is in everyday business life. Mathi said that innovation must go hand in hand with the ability to respond quickly to cyberattacks. Previous tests in our own company have shown that an open corporate culture and regular training on IT security are crucial.

Monica Rintersbacher, Managing Director of Leitbetriebe Austria, concluded the conversation with the appeal that exchange and continuous training are essential for companies to reach a new level of security. “Especially in times of growing threats, it is the task of leading companies to set a good example.”

This event made it clear that cybersecurity is not only a technical but also a strategic challenge in a corporate context.
