Bloody knife attack in Graz: Police are looking for witnesses!
On the night of April 25, 2025, a 44-year-old man in Graz was the victim of a violent knife attack. The incident occurred around 3:20 a.m. in Papierfabrikgasse, where the victim was drinking a beer in his car. The perpetrator, an unknown man, asked the victim for a cigarette before suddenly pulling out a knife and inflicting a stab wound on the man's right upper arm. After the attack, the perpetrator fled on foot towards Grazer Straße.
The victim was immediately taken to the Graz State Hospital, where mortality due to the injuries was ruled out. The police have created a ghost image of the perpetrator and are asking the public for help. Information about the identity of the perpetrator can be reported to the Andritz police station on 059 133/6581. The criminal commissioner has started the investigation.
Description of the perpetrator and search
The perpetrator is described as around 30 years old and around 180 cm tall. He has a slim build, fair skin and a three-day beard. At the time of the crime he was wearing a black jacket and a black cap. The police hope to use the phantom image and the detailed description to find other witnesses who may have seen something.
The brutal knife attack is not just an isolated case, but is an example of a worrying dynamic of violence in Graz. In 2023, the Styria State Police Department imposed a total of 1,724 entry and approach bans, which indicates an increasing number of violent acts and threats. This poses major challenges for the authorities, particularly with regard to protecting people at risk and solving such crimes. Stricter regulations have been in effect in Styria since 2020, which include a ban on approaching within 100 meters in order to provide those affected with better protection.
The police encourage the public to take an active part in solving the case and to share any information that could lead to the identification of the perpetrator. The increase in incidents like this highlights the need for a socially shared commitment to combating violence and crime in cities.
