Five traffic deaths in Austria: Alarming results from last week!
Last week, four traffic accidents occurred in Austria, in which five people died. Loud OTS died, including two car drivers, a motorcycle driver, a pedestrian and a passenger. The accident on October 25, 2025 in the Leibnitz district of Styria was particularly tragic. A 38-year-old car driver only noticed shortly before the collision that he was overtaking a Hungarian vehicle. The impact that followed was so violent that the Hungarian car burst into flames and the two occupants, aged 27 and 30, died. However, the person who caused the accident only suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital. An alcohol test produced a shockingly high result.
Two of the five road users who died also had an accident at the weekend. The causes of the incidents of the previous week should not be underestimated: disregarding rules and prohibitions, alcohol consumption and excessive speed were the main causes of accidents. The sad result shows that three of those killed in traffic were foreign nationals.
Traffic statistics 2025 in comparison
The figures so far for 2025 are alarming. From January 1 to October 26, 2025, there have already been 338 road deaths, which compares to 302 in the same period in 2024 and 342 in 2023. BMI reports that facts about road safety continue to come to light that give cause for concern.
For one of the most common traffic offenses, speeding, a total of 6,160,271 cases were punished in 2023, which represents an increase of 0.6% compared to the previous year. One particularly striking number is the increase in alcohol-related traffic stops, which rose 7.2% to 1,895,748. Nevertheless, the number of reports of driving under the influence of alcohol fell.
The result: high number of violations
The road safety record shows that special efforts must be made. In 2023, 8,676 vehicle drivers were reported for drug abuse, which represents an increase of 15.7% compared to the previous year.
Given these frightening statistics, it is hoped that relevant authorities will take stronger measures to improve vehicle safety and awareness of road signs. The dangers of road traffic are omnipresent and each individual must take responsibility to make the roads safer. In addition to the serious news, there is also good news from the music scene: On October 27, 2025, the artist collective 'The Canine Circus' will release their new song 'The Canine Circus Dance', which is available as an MP3 download.
