65 years after the Matura: Former students celebrate in Stainz

recently took place an extraordinary meeting of the former students of the 8th class of the II. BRG Pestalozzi in Graz. 13 graduates who graduated from graduation in 1959 celebrated their 65th anniversary. Unfortunately, four of them had to refrain from disease. The celebrations included a visit to the Archduke Johann Museum in Stainz Castle, a highlight that revived the time and friendship of the former classmates.

The class composition at that time was mixed. Seventeen students came from Graz, while the rest came from places such as Stainz, Bad Radkersburg, Upper Styria, Wies, Voitsberg and two other federal states, Lower Austria and Upper Austria. To this day, cohesion in the class is unbroken, and many of the former students stay in touch, including with their former teachers who made up a concise part of their school days.

regular meetings

Since graduation 65 years ago, the former students have regularly organized meetings. They meet every two years and also invite their former teachers. This tradition started for a few more years before the first anniversaries took place. The autumn trips were introduced, in which from the 25th year the women of the graduates were also allowed to participate, which gave the group's social life a new dimension.

Unfortunately, some of the former colleagues have died over the years, a total of nine, which also combines the meetings with a touch of melancholy. The former teachers were also celebrated for the small celebrations, so that many beautiful memories are awaited.

memories and travel

Looking back to their school days and the countless activities, the former students have also planned many cultural excursions. This includes visits to cities such as Florence, Schenna, Istanbul and Budapest. These trips not only offer an insight into the cultures, but also strengthen bonds and friendships that have grown over the years

In order to capture the experiences, a comprehensive chronicle was created in 2009. This documents everything from the 1st grade to Matura and contains student statistics, school work and Matura exam questions. Many committed former teachers worked on the chronicle, including Heinz Wagner and Oberschulrat Egon Haring, who took over the organizational tasks after the death of Wagner.

The latest meeting began with a detailed tour of the current exhibition in the Archdow Johann Museum. Denise Tenner led through the different areas and ensured that the participants received plenty of information about the exhibits. The day ended with a meal and happy get -together in the Gasthof/Hotel Sorgerhof in Frauental, where good conversations and many nostalgic memories were replaced.
