Blood donations urgently needed: Styria is fighting a shortage!
An alarming decline in blood stocks in Styria is causing concern. As the Red Cross reports, stocks have fallen sharply due to a persistent wave of colds and a high number of major surgical procedures. In some cases, these procedures may require up to 40 units of blood. Christian Steinscherer, head of the blood donation service, explains: "Stubborn colds mean that many of our loyal donors are currently unable to attend. At the same time, the demand for blood supplies remains high." This further increases the shortage of vital supplies, especially for the urgently needed blood types A positive and 0 positive, such as ORF.at reported.
Urgent call for blood donations
The Styrian Red Cross has therefore made an urgent appeal to the population to donate blood in order to counteract the critical situation. Donors with blood groups A positive and 0 positive are particularly in demand. These groups are common in the Austrian population and are therefore particularly in demand because they are often needed in emergencies. Anyone who donates blood by January 31st also has the chance to take part in the blood donation winter competition and win attractive prizes, such as MyDistrict.at informed.
A simple blood donation appointment can be completed in just about 30 minutes. The entire process, including the questionnaire and rest period, is simple and efficient. The blood from a donation has a shelf life of 42 days and can be life-saving. It is all the more important that health professionals who meet the criteria agree to donate blood now and help defuse the threatening situation.
