Spectacular and historical: Hunyadi starts on ORF 1 on Easter Monday!

Budapest, Ungarn - On April 21, 2025, the new event series "Hunyadi - Ascent to Power" celebrates its premiere on ORF 1. The first two episodes are broadcast on Easter Monday at 8:15 p.m. The production that has dragged on for three years is one of the most expensive series projects in Austria with costs of over 50 million euros. Director Robert Dornhelm, who is known for his Oscar and Emmy nominations, stages the story of the Hungarian hero of Jáno's Hunyadi, who lived in the 15th century.

The plot of the series follows Hunyadi's rise from a simple court to the mighty warlord and governor of Hungary. The dramatic conflicts between Hungary, Serbia, Austria and the Ottoman Empire are taken up, which leads to exciting intrigue, betrayal, passion and power struggles that shaped the Middle Ages. The spectators can look forward to spectacular fight scenes, impressive landscape shots and magnificent costumes.

In the title role as János Hunyadi, actor Gellért L. Kádár plays. He receives support from a talented line -up, which includes Murathan Muslu as Sultan Murad, Laurence Rupp as Albrecht von Habsburg and Cornelius Obonya as Friedrich von Habsburg. Gabriele Flossmann is responsible for the design of the series, while the camera work was carried out by Ferdinand Steininger, Klaus Hundsbichler and Andreas Schinko. International co -production combines several film companies, including Serendipity Point Films, Twin Media and Orf.

The shooting took place between July 25, 2022 and August 2, 2023 near Budapest. In these 174 shooting days, over 600 actors, stunt people and almost 100 horses were involved, which illustrates the impressive dimension of the project.
