focus on traffic safety in Tirol
The strategy is based on a detailed analysis of accident statistics and includes eight fields of action. A central guiding principle of this strategy is the "Safe System", which distributes responsibility for traffic safety to all road users. In 2024, the number of traffic fatalities in Tyrol was 32, including two children, while the number of injuries was around 4,800
accident prevention through targeted measures
An essential aspect of the strategy is to improve traffic conditions in local areas. This includes measures such as traffic calming, temporary reduction as well as the optimization of protection routes and cycling infrastructure. Free-range roads, which are often regarded as sources of danger for motorcycle and cyclists, also receive special attention, since the speeds there pose a high risk of serious injuries.
The police will intensify their controls in order to take effect against main causes of the accident such as speed overruns, distraction and driving. In particular, programs for traffic and mobility formation as well as traffic safety advice are expanded in order to raise awareness of traffic safety and to improve ways to school.
A technological change that shows itself in e-mobility and autonomous driving also requires that the traffic safety strategy will be regularly checked and adapted to take into account the new circumstances. The stakeholders from politics, police and traffic safety organizations work closely together to achieve these goals.
The reports on the above accident are sent to the Innsbruck public prosecutor and the district administration in Imst to take possible legal steps.
