Shots in Graz: Stalker seriously injured after attacking the police
on Friday evening, June 7th, 2025, dramatic incidents occurred in connection with a stalker. A 43-year-old Bosnian ignored a ban on his ex-wife and stayed near her apartment, even though a strong ban on entering was made. This ban had been imposed due to previous domestic violence and threats, which already indicates the trivialization of such warnings by many affected people.
The police patrol discovered the suspect in a parked car around 9 p.m. When the officers asked him, the man tried to flee, but was stopped. Then he took the reverse gear and accelerated at high speed towards the police. In this critical situation, the officials pulled their service weapons and opened the fire on the vehicle.
serious injuries and investigations
The Bosnian was seriously injured in the shots and recovered from the car. The police officers provided first aid and immediately alerted the rescue workers. An official was also injured in the operation. The suspect is currently being treated in the intensive care unit. The public prosecutor has already issued an arrest warrant and initiated a procedure for attempted murder. The use of firearms is now being examined by the independent investigation and complaint agency of the Federal Office for Corruption (BAK) in order to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
The legal basis for such measures are based on the Security Police Act (§ 38a). A ban on entering can be pronounced to protect endangered people, with the person concerned not only avoiding the apartment, but also a radius of 100 meters. These bans are of essential importance in acute threats.
domestic violence and prevention
The incidents in Graz also make a highlight of the serious problem of domestic violence. Almost every day there are reports of similar cases in which existing legal regulations are often not sufficient to protect those actually at risk. Similar problems were also found in further studies on violence in the family, which show that effective prevention measures are urgently necessary. Since the beginning of 2022, a temporary ban on weapons has also been banned from endangered persons in Austria, regardless of weapon permits. This is intended to help prevent further acts of violence.
The police offer advice and prevention seminars to convey strategies that are capable of acting in dealing with violent persons. These events should increase the skills and feeling of security. It is recommended that those affected immediately turn to the police should be disregarded.
The events in Graz are another sad proof that the challenges and dangers of violence in the family cannot be ignored in our modern society. It is essential to sharpen the sensitivity and to implement extensive educational and protective measures.
