Shocking motorcycle accident in Bludenz: driver seriously injured!

On May 1, 2025, at around 3:30 p.m., a serious motorcycle accident occurred in Bludenz on Montafonerstrasse (L188), near the entrance to Alfenzstrasse. A 34-year-old motorcyclist was traveling on the L188 towards Tyrol when a 50-year-old driver turned left from Alfenzstrasse onto the L188. The motorcyclist noticed the vehicle reversing too late, left the road during the accident and crashed into a boundary post and a traffic sign. As a result, the seriously injured driver remained lying on the bike path while his motorcycle was completely destroyed. The driver was otherwise uninjured.

The emergency services were alerted by passers-by who provided first aid. After initial treatment, the motorcyclist was taken to the LKH Feldkirch. What is worrying is that the driver's vehicle was not registered for traffic; Instead, he improperly used the license plates of another registered vehicle, which led to a separate report to the Bludenz district administration.

First aid and correct procedure

When providing first aid at the scene of an accident, it is important to first ensure your own safety by switching off the vehicle's engine and checking the surrounding area. Passers-by should put on a high-visibility vest to increase their visibility and immediately call 911 to alert emergency services and calmly describe the situation. Information about the exact location of the accident, the number of people injured and the severity of the injuries should be provided.

If you, as a first responder, find the motorcyclist wearing his helmet, it is crucial to note his critical condition. The steps for removing the helmet are clearly regulated: First, the visor should be raised and the person should be addressed. To avoid a lack of reaction, the shoulders should be gently shaken. If there is no reaction, you should call loudly for help and prepare to remove the helmet. It is advantageous if this is done in pairs.

Legal framework for first aiders

First responders should know that they are not legally liable for mistakes if they help in good faith and that failure to provide assistance is a criminal offense. By taking part in first aid courses, such as those offered by the ADAC, first aiders can deepen their knowledge and prepare for such emergencies. In addition, first aiders are insured against accidents while providing assistance.

This important topic not only underlines the urgency of providing first aid, but also how essential it is to prepare for such situations in order to be able to act correctly in an emergency. For further information on first aid in the event of a motorcycle accident and suitable measures in an emergency, we refer to the pages of ADAC and ADAC Yellow helps. It is hoped that the injured person will make a speedy recovery and that such accidents can be prevented in the future through responsible driving and appropriate safety measures.
