Refurbishment according to Brand: Rossbacher has to meet strict environmental requirements!
Nußdorf-Debant, Österreich - On July 8, 2025, a major fire in the waste management center of the Rossbacher company in Nußdorf-Debant creates numerous questions from the population. According to the [Dolomitenstadt] (https://www.dolomitenstadt.at/2025/07/land-witbbacher--ein--s--ssanization concept-vor/), residents and organic farms were concerned with the quality of their products after reports on smoldering and smelly areas in the area have appeared. However, Oskar Januschke, the head of the urban environmental department, assures that the groundwater is continuously tested and so far no special dangers have been found for the population.
An expert opinion of a Munich special company has examined soil, water and air and found it harmless. However, residents express doubts, especially with regard to the smell of fire and soot on plants. Understanding the population is further burdened by the need for a mandatory measurement and monitoring program, which must be installed under technical supervision.
renovation concept and measures
In response to the situation, Tyrol has prescribed a comprehensive renovation concept for the affected facility. This includes measures to restore the area damaged by the fire and the rapid evacuation of the area. A disposal concept for waste that cannot be disposed of promptly must be presented by mid -July. It is also required that a measurement and monitoring program to secure the groundwater quality will also be created up to this point.
In addition, measures to create an investigation program for the fixed surface are planned by the end of July. All studies must be accompanied and documented by technically suitable persons. Company boss Franz Rossbacher states that the implementation of these points is already in the works.
monitoring of the groundwater in Germany
The situation in Nussdorf-Debant could be classified in a wider context of the groundwater monitoring. In Germany, according to information from the Federal Environment Agency, 7,715 measuring points are set up in order to check the quantity of the groundwater. These measuring points play an important role in chemical surveillance, for which 7,869 measuring points are used.
These monitoring measures are in line with the EU Water Framework Directive, which obliges the Member States to set up measuring networks to monitor the groundwater. According to [Federal Environment Ministry] (https://www.bundesmundweltministerium.de/themen/wasser-und-binnewasesser/ Grundwasser/die-wasser framework directive-und-das- Grundwasser), all evaluation results must be reported to the EU Commission every six years. The data collected also serve to report reporting according to the EU Nitratrichts.
The tense situation in Nussdorf-Debant illustrates the need for effective monitoring and renovation measures in the area of groundwater. It remains to be seen how the next steps in this complex case can return to the extent to what extent the measures presented to the population.
